Tocqueville

In the Tocqueville book my favorite poem has to be the terrorist one. the way the poem is setup that we don't really know who the terrorist is in the reading is very fascinating to me. i like the idea of how there are twins and we are trying to guess if the twins is a metaphoric way of thinking or if there is a literal twin that is being talked about in the poem. In class when we discussed this and hey brought up the idea of the person having multiple personalities it really mad me think twice about the way you read this poem. this is the type of poems i like because they cause the reader not only to think critically but also really really read the poems.
The Tocqueville poem was one of the longest poems Ive every read. it was also one of the more confusing.i didn't get what was happening at all through out the whole poem. it seemed as if there were a couple different stories broken up and placed randomly throughout the poem. the story that was most reoccurring was the one about the man who had to kill his child. that story really took to my heart because not only did he have to kill his own child his wife had already been killed and he got his arms cut off. throughout the story he is basically hiding scared that the people are going to come back and finish him off. i couldn't imagine being in his situation at all. I think if it was me id really want them to come kill me that way i could be with my child and wife. i just don't understand why exactly a person would ever have another person do that to their family. i guess that just the way some societies work.
After reading this a couple times i finally came to read the part about being in a shrinks office. This really made me really look at the whole poem in a different way because instead of it being random stories it actually is one person over hearing the other sessions around them as they sit in the shrinks office for there own session. When looking at it this way you can kinda of tell where exactly everything comes together. At every session he hears something different in the other rooms so this is why the poem seems to be set up as random stories placed  throughout  the poem. when i read it after seeing that i kinda felt dumb for not realizing it sooner on because maybe it wouldn't have been so confusing to read at first.
